The City of Ontario has an exciting opportunity for a driven and experienced individual looking to take their career to the next level by becoming an Integrated Waste Dispatcher. The Integrated Waste Dispatcher provides dispatch communication to field service drivers to assist with service and route resolutions, including handling incoming service orders, provides direct service orders to drivers, interacts with customers and customer service staff as needed for service resolutions. This newly created position will play an important role in leading and motivating a team committed to providing excellent integrated waste services to Ontario residents and business owners.

The Eligibility List will consist of both internal and external applicants who meet the qualifications and successfully complete any required selection processes.- The hiring department has the discretion to consider internal applicants on the Eligibility list prior to considering all applicants on the Eligibility list.

The Integrated Waste Department, which is part of the City of Ontario's Public Works Agency, is committed to providing timely and efficient integrated waste and recycling collection services with an emphasis on good customer service, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. The Integrated Waste Department includes approximately 116 full time staff and offers a variety of services and programs related to refuse and recycling collection service to approximately 33,000 residential and 3,500 commercial customers. Among the services offered are weekly residential curbside recycling and green waste collection, and a full array of commercial and industrial integrated waste services designed to meet any business needs, including commercial food waste collection services, available six days a week, Monday through Saturday.

The Public Works Agency provides essential construction, integrated waste and recycling collection, fleet and facility maintenance and repair services to the citizens and businesses of Ontario through the Parks and Maintenance, Municipal Services, and Integrated Waste Departments. The Agency has 232 full time employees and an annual budget of over $105 million.

The essential functions typically performed by the Integrated Waste Dispatcher include the following:
Dispatches and communicates with drivers, customers, staff and Management on daily service requests, service request changes, and service issues.- Receives, researches and responds to service inquiries regarding trash service and usage.
- Checks-in frequently with drivers to ensure service needs are met.
- Manages and prioritizes service requests for pickup and delivery on containers.
- Coordinates and assigns service tickets to appropriate drivers based on driver location, workload and availability.
- Reviews and coordinates services requests with Supervisors for next day dispatch.
- Reports driver service and safety issues or concerns to Management for resolution.
- Conducts daily audit of tablets; tests and prepares service devices for next day use.
- Records and maintains status of calls via computer, dispatch radio, telephone keyboard, and other communications equipment.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Education
High School diploma or recognized equivalent.
Experience
One year of previous customer service and dispatch experience.
Licenses
Valid Class C California driver's license. Acceptable driving record at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
Desirable
Experience with integrated waste collection operations and knowledge of geography and major road networks of the City. Previous experience working in a fast pace, high volume environment is highly desirable.
Special Requirement
This position may be subject to overtime as required for completion of daily assignments.
